Wild Harvest Super Premium blend for rabbits. good or bad?
I had a netherland dwarf that lived for 8 happy years. we basically fed it wild harvest premium rabbit blend and carrots, lettuce, ans spinach. I have recently learned that Wild harvest premium rabbit blend is bad for rabbits. If it is so bad, why did my rabbit live for a good 8 years? He wasn’t overweight either, he was overall just a healthy rabbit. he died two years ago and we have a new rabbit now, and I want to know what I should feed her.
That kind of food is bad because of all the extra stuff in it. Rabbits don’t need corn, seeds or dried fruit. All that extra stuff is junk food to them. The problem with these kinds of foods is that some rabbits can be very picky eaters and will only eat what they like and leave the stuff that is good for them. Rabbits should be fed a plain pellet that has its first ingredient as being timothy hay and not alfalfa hay. Alfalfa is very fattening and should only be fed to young rabbits who are still growing and need the extra calories. Your rabbit probably did well on this food because he wasn’t a picky eater and because you didn’t over feed him on the pellets or have them as the main part of his diet. A really good quality pellet that has one of the highest fiber contents and is made from timothy hay is Oxbow Bunny Basics/ T. Basically avoid rabbit food with any extra cereals, seeds, or nuts. Alfalfa should only be given as a treat. Timothy hay or another grass hay should be available at all times for your rabbit.
Good luck with your new bunny!
