History of Heart Disease – Cardiovascular Trouble in Modern Times
Overview Of The History Of Heart Disease
The history of heart disease contains some quite interesting facts. We now know many things about coronary heart disease, cholesterol, and healthy heart foods because of science; however, our ancestors lacked this knowledge.
The ancient Egyptians knew full well that the heart was a very important organ. We have need today in this world to be concerned about getting heart disease, as the research on the history of heart disease shows.
Ancient Egyptians understood the vital importance of the heart to keep the body healthy. The heart it was thought, had a metaphysical implication in one’s life. These ancient Egyptian beliefs about the heart are quite similar to the Far East’s point’s of view also.
Ancient Egypt’s Beliefs About The Heart
These ancient Egyptian archaeological discoveries tell us that they believed the seat of personality and of human wisdom originates in the heart. A common belief was that the heart had many channels that routed to other areas within the body. The common belief back then was that these pathways provided a channel for the various parts of the body to receive fluids like blood or nutrients. The Egyptians held the belief disease would take place in the body if a channel became blocked.
Many believed back then that personality, human awareness, soul, and emotions… and the heart was the core origination for these. Perhaps that is why in these so called modern times, we relate the heart to love, poetry, and our feelings. They had the belief that the heart was used by God to talk to us. It has been said many times, “She has a broken heart”. Many things have been written about in the history books of the ancient Egyptians because of their knowledge and insight into many areas of humankind.
History Of Heart Disease And The Middle Ages
Research on the history of heart disease of the English speaking people in the middle ages, indicate they did not have much disease caused by cholesterol. The Briton’s in the middle ages did not have much heart disease to contend with. They ate foods that were not processed and did not contain very much fatty compounds. Also foods such as vegetables, were allowed to grow and mature naturally without man’s interference by spraying of chemicals like herbicides on the vegetables.
The Modern Age And Cardiovascular Disease
In pre-industrial times, medical research on the history of heart disease, tells us that most people did not suffer from heart ailments and subsequent death from cardiovascular disease.
The industrial revolution started in the 19th century. We started to see more heart problems and heart disease after the beginning of the industrial revolution. Many people before modern technology came into being, performed manual labour. Manual labour had health benefits for the heart and body. Another related bonus of having to do physical work, is the break down of fatty accumulations in the heart and other areas of the body.
The Modern Age And Diet
As we all know nowadays, the foods we eat play a huge role in the possibility of whether or not we will have any cardiovascular ailments. The heart suffers if you eat a lot of foods that are high in trans fatty acids, salt, and saturated fats. Many of us love and enjoy deep-fried greasy food such as burgers and fries; however, we know these types of foods contribute to cardiovascular disease. Health issues are also created by some of the additives to canned foods such as salt. Processed foods may not be as readily absorbed as unprocessed foods. Exercise and eating plenty of raw fruits and vegetables will serve you well, perchance then… we may not become a statistic in the books of the future of the history of heart disease.
