Where can I get help for cheap anti-depressants and/or therapy for someone with no insurance?
My husband is bipolar and has some other issues. He needs medication but he doesn’t have any insurance and he’s currently unemployed. I need to find out how he can get free (i know that’s a long shot) or just affordable anti-depressants without having insurance…. if anyone can help me or point me in the right direction i would be SO greatful! Thank you.
First if he has bipolar, you do NOT want him on anti depressants….at least not without a mood stabalizer first. Bipolar + antidepressant without moodstabalizer = manic hell.
Many companys do offer meds for free or low cost through programs if your dr will prescribe and refer you to the program. Also lithium, the longest used mood stabalizer, has been in generics so long it is relitivly low cost……actually may even be on $4 generic plans many stores have. Also some generic antidepressants are lower cost if an AD needs to be added..
There are low cost clinics that work on sliding scale based on income, so may be free to see someone, either a dr, or even if just a therapist that may be able to help with some therapy, and maybe point you in the right direction as far as a Dr. But really, even if you have to pay out of pocket for a dr appt every few months, it is well worth the working on getting bipolar under control. He has a lot more chance of getting a job if his bipolar is controled too.
Just stress the cost being an issue to any drs you deal with. They know how it is and will know what meds are either inexpensive or that you could get assistance with.
