The famous Royal Selangor Pewter Factory was founded in 1885. This fine 18th century manufacturing base started off by producing items for the oriental market such as incense burners and candle holders. However with the British Colonial rule the product line expanded significantly. The offerings started to include traditional tankards, chic tea sets, beautiful coffee pots, photo frames, ashtrays and even stylish desk accessories.
With the product line expanding, the company built on a brand name titled Selangor Pewter. By the 1970’s Royal Selangor was able to export its precious products to countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia. A decade later the company was able to expand its export market by starting to export to European nations and Japan.
By today Royal Selangor has progressed immensely offering employment to over 600 skilled craftsmen. Thousands of diverse and dexterously crafted Pewter products are being produced here on an annual basis. At present Royal Selangor products are available in over 20 nations with the company’s own network of retail stores. Its products are also available in leading stores such as Wako, Mitsukoshi, Harrods and John Lewis.
The Pewter products manufactured at Royal Selangor are of high quality international standards. Designers at the company are given total freedom to express their creativity.
