Florida – Fruit Wine City!
Florida is famous for many things, mainly as one of the holiday hotspots of the United States. This state is home to the Theme Park city “Orlando”, and this is why it gets so many visitors. There a more visitors that travel to Florida each year, than the entire UK, and with so much to offer people for fun there is no wonder. The reason that Florida is famous with families, is for it’s mass of theme parks like Disney World. Universal Studios and Disney World are the two biggest here, with at least four more large ones as well!
However what else is there that makes Florida special, something more niche but still appealing to holiday makers around the world. Although Florida is best known for it’s theme parks, you can also go there to sample wine made from Oranges. Any fruit that wields the joys of sugar can be transformed into a wine or liquor.
You see when the Spanish came over to America they wanted to use Florida’s great climate to grow wine. It is universally recognised that Grapes are the traditional way to make wine, and probably the best. However although the climate was well suited to the grape way of life, the soil wasn’t. In order for the grapes to flourish they needed the appropriate minerals in the soil, which wasn’t available here. Although relatively strong fruits, they couldn’t survive here. Hardier stuff was needed to keep order amongst soldiers and obviously to keep some taste flowing through the ranks.
The easiest and clearest option that they took was the Orange, a sturdy fruit that could be easily maintained. The Oranges were perfectly suited to these climate conditions, and were also rich in sugar. There are orange grove wineries in Florida and are great for you to visit on your Florida holidays. USA holidays haven’t exactly blossomed because of the Orange wines, but they should be visited, maybe even if you are on a Fly Drive USA tour!
