I need a great oil and vinegar sub dressing?
If anyone has worked at a sub shop and would like to let me in on the recipe, that would be great. I need a recipe that has that great taste that makes a difference on a sub. I’ve seen a lot of salad dressings, but if you ever had a really great sub with that seasoned oil and vin. dressing …..you know what I’m talking about. Thanks a lot!!!

You and the rest of the world would like to know what those subway shops put in their dressings! Here’s the problem. Even the employees don’t know. The dressing comes to them pre-mixed, and all they do is add the oil and vinegar (and maybe microwave it). There are as many ideas of what is a Subway dressing as there are hairs in your head! I’ve researched your question for more than an hour, and there’s no way to find the real dressing. As you’ll see below, even the owner of a subway shop didn’t give much to go on. That’s why yours is truly an “unanswerable question.”
I’ve done the next best thing for you and researched dressings used on subways. Some people say the best dressing to use is Good Seasons Italian Dressing, which comes in a packet, and you add oil and vinegar. I happen to think it’s one of the best dressing mixes on the market, but the important thing is how it tastes to you.
Here are some of the things I was able to find for you:
I found this online, written by a woman, answering a question about how to make Subway’s oil and vinegar dressing:
“I just had to reply to this question because my husband and I own 4 Subways!!! I checked our oil and it is a canola/olive oil blend – 90%canola and 10% olive oil. It’s not an exact science since our employees mix the oil and vinegar but we guess it to be about 50% oil and 50% red wine vinegar. Both oil and vinegar are “Subway branded” but I’m sure you can find a good combo at the store to use. Have fun at home but PLEASE keeping visiting Subway too!!!”
So that gives you the oil and vinegar part. As for the spices, I read somewhere that oregano is added to the oil and vinegar. I would guess that there would also be salt and pepper added.

The next three dressings sounded especially good to me, so I’ve copied and pasted them here for you. You can try one or both. They certainly have good ingredients. I wish I knew which you liked better!
SUBWAY SANDWICH DRESSING
INGREDIENTS:
1/4 cup olive oil
6 large onions, sliced thin
1 tablespoon water
6 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon chopped flat leaf parsley
1/2 teaspoon minced fresh basil
1/2 teaspoon minced fresh rosemary
1 cup chicken stock
1 cup white wine
salt and pepper
DIRECTIONS:
In a large stock pot heat oil over medium heat and add onions When hot reduce to a simmer and stir frequently to prevent burning. Simmer 1 hour, adding the 1 T. of water if needed. Add remaining ingredients except salt and pepper, cooking until reduced and thick, around 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Someone else wrote this question online: Does anyone know the kinds of vinegar and oil is used at Subway on their sandwiches? Below is the recipe that was given:
SUBWAY SANDWICH DRESSING (SWEET ONION SAUCE)
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 Tablespoon white minced onion
1 Tablespoon red wine vinegar
2 teaspoons white vinegar
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon buttermilk powder
1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
1/8 teaspoon poppy seeds
1/8 teaspoon salt
pinch of cracked pepper
pinch of garlic powder
DIRECTIONS:
Combine all in microwave bowl..heat on high for 1-2 min until it boils rapidly…whisk well, cover and cool. Makes about 2/3 cup.

Finally, here we have someone else who was tired of using oil and vinegar and decided to fool around until he came up with something like the Subway dressing, which he loves. This is his dressing recipe:
SUBMARINE DRESSING
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup vegetable oil (I used soybean…evoo probably nice too)
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 red pepper flakes (I removed the seeds)
1/4 teaspoon dried onion flakes (rehydrated if using within 2 hours)
1/4 teaspoon parsley flakes
1/8 teaspoon dried minced garlic (rehydrated if using within 2 hours)
1/16 teaspoon celery salt
DIRECTIONS:
salt and pepper to taste, stir well or put in jar and shake…..refrigerate overnight for flavor to develop
I used mine after a short 2 hours in the fridge and it was fantastic bet it’s really kick butt tomorrow

As you can see, everybody has his own idea of what a Subway Dressing is! Since I haven’t tried them, I don’t know. I’d be tempted to try the ones that sound good to you. Who knows — maybe one of them is really “the one!”
