Is gin the best alcohol, since it’s botanical/berries/spices?
Since gin is distilled from many different (tasty) botanicals, spices and berries, I have the feeling it might be best for me IF/WHEN I decide to have a drink, as I’m watching my sugars (rum) and starches (vodka) and can’t have yeast (beer, wine).
I know alcohol does not have the same composition as the product it’s made of, and alcohol is *bad* for you and the first thing you burn instead of calories… but given a choice at a social event, does this make sense?
Gin & tonic also has quinine, and a martini (gin, vermouth *also herbs & spices) is just fabulous darlings, so we’re good to go, right?

Gin is not distilled from botanicals nor juniper berries and you should smack the stupid out of whoever told you that.
Gin is distilled from grain, as is most vodka (there are grape, corn and potato vodkas) and whiskey. The difference with gin is that it is also infused with botanicals, (such as juniper, coriander, anise, citrus, etc) giving it all the fabulous flavors.
This infusion doesn’t contribute any measurable nutritional differences, but hey, it’ll still cure what ails ya.
Of course “best” is entirely subjective, but I am a big fan of gin. I’m also a huge fan of bourbon. It takes as much skill and way, way more time to make, and also has a lot of flavor.
