Antiseptics and Herbal Skin Care
Mankind has for many thousands of years used some kind of skin care regime but it is only in recent times he has had the luxury to choose between natural skin care using herbal products or those devised synthetically by man. The skin care market changed forever when chemical based products became available which have taken over the skin care market from herbal products. Unfortunately many of these natural formulas where never written down as they were handed down by word of mouth so only a small number remain, there are even people that have never use a herbal product.
Perhaps it is our fast paced lives and the ease with which we can purchase just about any synthetically produced item that has helped with the decrese in using natural preparations.Of course commercial skin care manufacturers now mass produce herbal skin care products but because they would not last long in storage, they are obliged to add a preservative which unfortunately means they are not as good as thos you make in your own home.
It seems that increasing numbers of people are becoming more discerning and using herbal skin care products again from companies that are specializing in making small batches of these products.But still, as no-one wants to make them at home, the commercial market of herbal skin care products is on the rise but what are these herbs or herbal skin care mechanisms?
The most famous is probably aloe vera which is extracted from an aloe plant and is very effective at treating sunburn and other skin problems including cuts; in fresh form it is a natural skin hydrating compound. If you have ever wondered why tea has other herbal additives like dandelion, chamomile, lime flowers and rosemary then it is because they are cleansers and often work better when they are combined with other herbs.
You may not know about the herbal antiseptic qualities of other herbs like lavender, marigold, thyme and fennel and the use of lavender water and rose water have been known to have skin toning properties for a very long time. If you have ever had an excess of uv radiation whilst sunbathing then one of the herbal skin care products you used may have contained extracts of tea.
Other herbal skin care products make use of oils, the level of concentration can vary depending on use; common versions of these are borage oil, primrose oil and tea tree oil for example. Certain skin conditions can also be helped with oils extracted from plants in herbal skin care preparations.
Most herbal skin care products don’t have any side effects; which is the most important reason for preferring them over synthetic products, moreover, herbal skin care products can be easily made at home, hence making them even more attractive. So, herbal skin care is the way to go but this does not mean that you totally discard the synthetic products and you should accept the fact that some skin orders might need usage of clinically proven non-herbal skin care products.
We all need to look after our skin by whatever means we can as it is the main barrier against disease and takes a great deal of punishment in the modern climate we all live in.
