Closures: Lid and Cap Styles – Part 2
There are innumerable closure options available in the world today. Learn the basics of dispensing closures by reading this lid and cap exploration. This countdown will spotlight five different dispensing lids including, orifice reducers, Yorker spouts, sifter/spice caps, dropper tips and inverted dropper tips. Keep reading to gain helpful insight into choosing the right closure for your container.
- Orifice Reducer
Remember when you ruined that dinner with way too much cooking oil because the bottle was difficult to pour from? An orifice reducer could have saved you the pain and embarrassment of that situation. With the appearance of a plastic disc with a protruding lip, the orifice reducer can be used to limit the size of a container’s opening. Remember, the reducer needs to be coupled with a compatible cap in order to seal and function appropriately.
- Yorker Spout
Yorker spouts are conical shaped dispensers on top of a threaded base. These closures are typically used with glue and other industrial products. The spouts can be purchased pre-drilled, and ready to dispense product upon delivery, or sealed, requiring the tips of the closure to be cut before contents can be released. CPS carries Yorker spouts in white and natural colors.
- Sifter/Spice Cap
Spice and powder products have successfully capitalized on the use of sifter/spice caps. These caps were especially designed to dispense fine products. Typically hinged or twistable, these caps include a revolutionary liner, accented with small holes that allow for small particle contents to be dispensed in a controlled manner.
- Dropper Tip
Dropper tip closures have a similar appearance to a disc tap with an added funnel shape at the top. The tips come in two variations, controlled and uncontrolled. Controlled tips dispense contents one drop at a time, while uncontrolled releases product in streams. Dropper tips can be purchased as single tips as in our product L517C, or as part of a complete closure in item L500. Single tips must be purchased along with a compatible closure to seal and work properly.
- Inverted Dropper Tip
Inverted dropper tips are perfect closures for essential oils and concentrated extracts. The dropper’s small presence, a minute pipette attached to a ribbed cap base, makes it useful to use with small glass bottles. Each time the lid is removed the dropper is capable of dispensing a few drops. These droppers are also known by the name Euro Spout lid.
