Ok I bought a 28 day supply of ovulation strips! It was positive on day 13. It was a faint line up until day ?
day 20 and there was no line. Does that mean I will not be pregnant? Or can ovulation kits not give you a idea if you will be pregnant or not?
Positive OPT for that many days can mean many things. Im not familiar with the line version of OPT, I use clearblue easy digital ovulation monitor, it works better for me.
Positive OPT for that long means one of a few things though…
1) You could have PCOS, which will make you have more ‘fertile’ days register on the ovulation predictor tests (it give more high days w/ people who have PCOS because usually people with PCOS have hormone issues that cause the testers to read inaccurately).
2) You could be pregnant (from last month and not know it). I would check a prego. test if you didnt have a heavy cycle last month as Ive known women that do the pee on a stick tests to test positive for several days when they were pregnant and didnt know it
3) The faint line could show ‘high fertility’ days, but I couldnt really think that to be the case as that would mean you would have had at least 4 days of high fertility after ovulating, which isnt really right, as women are only supposed to have 1-2 days of high fertility after ovulating. (High fertility meaning, higher chance of getting prego. Peak meaning day of ovulation).
So, my suggestion… to see if you ovulated this month, call your dr. and get a blood test. They generally do it on day 21 of your cycle but I dont see why they couldnt do it now. If you didnt ovulate, ask what you can do to ensure you do next month. They might give you provera to kick start bleeding essentially to ‘restart’ your body so it will potentially ovulate the next month or prescribe an ovulation stimulat, like clomid, to get you ovulating.
As for the ‘pregnant not pregnant’. You cant get pregnant without ovulation because ovulating is the follicle (egg sack) releasing the mature egg to make a baby. Without the egg, you cant make the baby. But, ovulating doesnt mean that you will get pregnant at the first crack at it either (there’d be way more babies in the world if so).
On average, women have a 25% chance of getting pregnant each month… odds go up the more months you try for a baby during the right time. People under 35 (general age dr.’s give) who dont conceive after 1 year of trying need to look at infertility testing because it is unlikely that a women who tries at the right time each month, who know they ovulate, and has a normal AF wont get pregnant within a year. For couples over 35, the decrease the wait time to 6 mos. because if it is a infertility issue, the longer you wait, the longer it will be to diagnose and try to get pregnant… and for over 35, dr’s generally say ‘no reason to wait an entire year’ to find out whats going on.
People with PCOS will generally have lighter periods, but will still bleed each month, which is a main reason they dont realize they have fertility problems or dont know until later when they find out they have PCOS that they arent ovulating.

OPT are only useful to tell you when you have the best chances to conceive, they dont show that you can get pregnant or will get pregnant. They have to be followed up with a pregnancy test after AF is late. Good luck!
