1) Death Magnetic
-TBH, Musically, I think that Endgame is a more technically proficient album, and Dave’s guitar work is still tops. But there is just something about his singing and even the lyrics.. that just lacks conviction. Dave simply does not sound angry anymore.. and to me it makes the whole album sound like he is just going through the motions. I really wanted to love it too. But with DM, while it was not near as hard, fast and heavy as Endgame, it just sounded like an album they really wanted to make, and put their all into. It was good, mature, interesting and well rounded.
2) Final Frontier
IMO Nostradamus, while interesting simply had waaaaaay too much filler, and Halford and company are showing their age a bit more ( no shock since they have been around about a decade longer than Maiden). The Final Frontier on the other hand I love every track. They sound excited, rejuvenated and ready to go another 35 years.
3) The Devil You Know
Not huge on either TBH, but Scream just, well.. SCREAMS commercial album. From the trite title song to debuting on CSI Miami.. it just seems like a last gasp at mainstream relevancy, a legacy of Sharon’s media whoring and their little time in the public eye. Really the only plus was Gus G infusing it with a fresh guitar sound that reminded me slightly of Jake E Lee.
