Beneficial Bacteria for Bloating, Gas, Ibs, Vaginal Infections and Diarrhea
Bacteria generally get a bad rap and are synonymous with disease and illness. However, some bacteria are actually good for you and can help assist the flora in your innards to reestablish themselves. These good bacteria, which are very similar to the naturally recurring beneficial microorganisms, are generally referred to as probiotic. If you suffer from bloating, gas, ibs, skin or vaginal infections, or diarrhea, then you might want to look into a daily probiotic supplement.
In an ideal situation, your digestive tracts micro flora population should be about 85 percent good bacteria. An unhealthy diet of refined foods and sugars, drinking chlorinated water, exposure to radiation, and the use of antibiotics, oral contraceptives, or steroids will all throw this percentage off resulting in high levels of toxins in the your system. Digestive problems, stress, and poor waste elimination will also exacerbate the problem. In order to maintain a healthy balance of good bacteria and bad bacteria, it is a good idea to take a probiotic supplement, or to eat foods that contain probiotics, Daily intake of probiotics will help encourage the survival of good bacteria.
Here are the benefits of taking proiotics:
· Improved digestion
· Vitamin absorption
· Enzyme production
· Your body gains access to more nutrients such as vitamin B and K, calcium, lactose, and fatty acids,
· Controls viral and parasitic infection
· Keeps harmful bacteria in check
· Regulates your body’s PH level which will help stop harmful bacteria and yeasts from reproducing.
Here is a list of foods that contain probiotics:
· Yogurt: look for the ones that contain “live cultures” such as L. acidophiles.
· Milk, fermented or otherwise
· Miso
· Tempeh
· Sauerkraut
· Soy beverages and certain juices
Reasons why you need probiotics:
· The chlorinated water that we drink kills off our naturally occurring intestinal flora.
· We are exposed to way to many antibiotics in the meat that we eat since farm animals are injected with copious amounts of it to stave off disease.
· Drinking alcohol will kill off the good bacteria, allowing the harmful bacteria and yeast to grow.
· It is important to take probiotics while taking antibiotics. Antibiotics will kill all the bacteria, both good and bad, within your intestinal tract.
· Many prescription drugs and birth control pills kill off intestinal flora and damage the intestinal wall.
What types of probiotics to take:
Probiotics can be found in any grocery or health food store. You do not a a prescription to get them and overdosing on them is pretty much unheard of. When shopping around fro probiotics it is important to consider the type of bacteria (the scientific sounding Latin name), the potency, and the overall purity of the product. A good example of a decent probiotic on the market today is Natrol Biobeads. It is an once a day acidophiles culture that does not need to be refrigerated.
A good probiotic regime to start off on is 1-10 billion viable L-acidophiles or B. bifidum cells a day. Dived this up into 3 or 4 doses throughout the day, taking them on a empty stomach an half an hour or an hour before you eat. To prevent diarrhea from antibiotics, you should up your dosage to about 15 to 20 billion viable organisms per day.
In order for probiotics to function properly, your body’s PH within its gastrointestinal tract must be balanced. The small intestines PH level should be slightly alkaline with a 7.5-8.0 level and the colon should be on the acidic side with a 6.0-6.5 level. If your body does not have the proper PH levels, probiotics will not work as they should. You maintain the right PH through a proper diet.
